At Accelero Biostructures, we capitalize on more than 15 years of high-throughput protein x-ray crystal structure determination at the Joint Center for Structural Genomics (JCSG) consortium that was headed by Ian Wilson, Keith Hodgson and others. The consortium was comprised of The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla; Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation, La Jolla; Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, La Jolla; and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, Menlo Park.
The JCSG was funded with investments from the National Institutes of Health-National Institute of General Medical Sciences’ Protein Structure Initiative and considerable investments from participating institutions.
JCSG developed a robust gene to structure pipeline during the three phases of this project. A multi-institutional, industry-like operation with distributed clients was established. The primary drivers were efficiency and cost.
More than 1500 novel protein structures were solved, resulting in over 300 publications.
